We need help ensuring a Return on Your Tax Investment!
How can you help? By joining the Transportation for Illinois Coalition’s 1 to 5 campaign. We are asking that each of you make a commitment to reach out to at least 5 individuals you work or socialize with – anybody and everybody, including your neighbors, school board members, retailers, suppliers, social club members, acquaintances from church, college classmates and others. We hope you will begin a conversation with these folks that will be sustained and will grow over the next two months, ultimately resulting in outreach to federal officials from these non-construction industry community leaders. Our goal is to make this program effective, but also easy and fun for you and your contacts. Here’s how it will work.
Identify and talk with at least five non-transportation industry friends or colleagues about the impact they can have on our economic future by advocating for infrastructure spending to be a priority of the federal government. We hope that you will be able to convince five people to sign on to the attached statement in support of the concept – getting a Return on your Tax Investment. With your signature, and the signatures of your five non-construction contacts, you will then send this signed statement to the district office of your member of Congress. Finally, send us a note about who you’ve contacted and send us a copy of the signed statement you sent in (send both to jennifer@filson-gordon.com). Jennifer Morrison, TFIC’s managing director, will then forward a note about your efforts to TFIC members, along with any comments you send about your successes so we can all celebrate what you’ve done.
Why should I share the signed statement with TFIC? Isn’t it enough to send it to my congressman? TFIC wants to recognize the successes you will undoubtedly have and share those with others to help build momentum. In addition, every time you circulate and return a signed statement, TFIC will enter your name in a prize drawing. And there are many ways to win! TFIC will be recognizing and rewarding those individuals who do the most to make this grassroots effort work. At the TFIC Annual Meeting on September 26th (as we near the sunset date of the current federal authorization), TFIC will award special prizes for the most industrious of our grassroots organizers. And don’t worry if grassroots work isn’t your strength, we will be offering prizes for all types of work designed to move Congress toward a reasonable funding level for transportation in 2012 and 2013. Stay tuned for additional details and updates!
