ASCE Report Card
The American Society of Civil Engineers today released “Failure to Act,” their first-ever report on the costs associated with the failure to fund surface transportation improvements, illustrating the profound impact that would be felt at the end of this decade.
By 2020, America’s deteriorating infrastructure would cost the nation 877,000 jobs and suppress GDP growth by $3.1 trillion. Furthermore, businesses would be faced with an additional $430 billion in transportation costs, exports would fall by $28 billion and the average household income would fall by more than $7,000 resulting in a lower standard of living for everyone.
The complete report, which was conducted by the Economic Development Research Group of Boston, can be found at http://www.asce.org/reportcard
This serves as yet another powerful argument in our arsenal for adequate funding of our nation’s infrastructure as we fight for reauthorization of our nation’s surface transportation law.
